Weigh-In Wednesday: Emotions Run High

The past couple of weeks I've felt off. I'm not in the mood to eat healthy. I crave all these bad foods. I ate Burger King before a workout (very bad idea)! I don't know what is going on. I feel as if I have a void I cannot fill and food is what I turn to. I've been eating when I haven't even been hungry. I keep trying to find a taste that will satisfy me. I have not found anything sweet nor savory, good nor bad that will make this feeling go away. And yet I keep on eating. It's comforting until I realize what I've done and then I'm depressed again.

I am an emotional eater. I always have been and it's something I need to overcome. I will eat when I'm sad, happy, nervous or excited. This weekend my brother came to visit and we ate... a lot. I was so happy to see him that I equated that with eating food. When my family comes to visit we eat a lot. I guess food and celebration go hand in hand, but they don't have to.

If you haven't guessed already, I did gain weight this week. I was a bit down on myself because it was kind of a lot of weight gain, but I told myself that I've done this before and I have always taken the weight back off.

Part of my woes probably stem from the fact that I haven't been exercising as regularly as I'd like. I have not been going to SkyRobics and won't until after my race because I don't want to injure myself. Plus, my chiropractor told me a few weeks ago not to run because I had hyperextended my knee. So, for the past few weeks I haven't run which has made me a bit apprehensive about the race.

This morning, however, I ran three miles. My knee didn't hurt at all. My breath was low and steady. I'm feeling really good at the moment. I'm going to focus on eating better and stretching a lot until Sunday. I've got butterflies in my stomach already!

PS I met Collective Soul on Saturday. Ooooh yeah.

Weigh-In Wednesday: 5 Pounds to Go!

It's a miracle. I lost a pound this week and I have no idea how. I haven't worked out once since I'm still getting over my cold and I ate really poorly. Ok I lied. I worked out on Saturday, but I got so fatigued that I smashed my face with a weight and almost fainted. I had to quit half way through SkyRobics. I have to remember that I need to let my body recover from colds. I will be attending SkyRobics this Saturday and I think I'll be ok. I'm still not 100%, but my brother is coming in to town and it's going to be a good time.
Don't smash your face with weights. It hurts.

So yeah, my brother... isn't dead. We thought he was on Mother's Day. For real. Not like "oh Kelly's dead somewhere ha ha ha" more like "OMG NO ONE CAN FIND KELLY! HE'S DEAD!" But, he's not dead, so he's still coming to visit this weekend. Actually he comes in tomorrow! And the reason I bring this up is that I will probably be eating like CRAP. I'm going to really try and be good, but we're golfing on Friday and we get fried chicken for golf and then we're going to a steakhouse that's the yummiest. At least I'll be getting in a good workout this week. Just fare waring for next week's post. I may gain a few pounds. Honestly though, I feel really good about my weight lately. I'm not going to stress about it.

And for those keeping tabs, I'm five pounds away from hitting my goal weight (the first goal). I'm pretty excited about that! Also, 11 days until my half marathon. Next post it will only be four! Holy crap.

Recipes: Apple Bagelwiches

I just made the most amazing sandwiches ever! They were crunchy, chewy, sweet, salty, and healthy! I found the recipe on Pinterest and have wanted to try it for a while now.

**INTRODUCING APPLE BAGELWICHES!!**
Photo from Brit.co
Ingredients:
Apple (I used Fuji)
Peanut butter (I used crunchy)
Granola (I used Bare Naked fruit and nut)

I bought a large apple which yielded two sandwiches. I would blot the apple slices to help make the peanut butter stick. My friend Ed was making fun of me at work. Sprinkle on granola and top with the other apple slice. SO, SO good. Tastes like dessert!

Reduced-fat peanut butter will cut down the calories by only about 10, but will cut the fat down to almost half.

Weigh-In Wednesday: On the Mend

I'm feeling a bit loopy this morning because I have a cold [yet again], so my post will probably be short and sweet. Well, maybe not sweet. I maintained my weight this week. I'm not that upset really. I'm still under 170, so that makes me feel good! Although, I'm not sure how I didn't lose anything because by this fancy dancy chart from my FitBit, I should have lost a pound! I guess the comfort food I had last night didn't help.

In other news, my knee is healing nicely. I went to the chiropractor and she said I could still jump [hooray!], but not run [booo]. I will be missing SkyRobics today from being sick, but I think my joints are going to thank me. I may have to miss Saturday as well, but we'll see.

I plan on being able to run very shortly. I have no doubt in my mind that I can finish this race. My endurance has improved greatly with my workouts and I'm sure all the adrenaline will help me through the race. I'm very excited! Less than three weeks to go!!

My brother just asked me where this was, so I better get to posting!

Weigh-In Wednesday: New Low

That's right! I've officially lost 20 pounds! My new scale, the FitBit Aria was supposed to arrive today, but I think it knew it had to be delivered on time for Weigh-In Wednesday, and was delivered yesterday!

This morning I was excited and nervous to weigh myself because with the new scale it's automatically logged and I can't "cheat" and keep my last weeks weight if I ended up gaining a pound. So, I stepped on my old scale. 169. Bummer. I maintained, but at least I didn't gain. Stepped on the new scale. 167.8!!!! Wow... and now I wonder if I really was on my 170 plateau for as long as I was. Then, I went poo (TMI?) and weighed myself. 166.9!!!! Approximately 7 more pounds to go before I am at my first goal!

Today is a pretty good day!
I got an email today saying my dog, Olive, is now an original work of art on Etsy! You will be able to order it from Pop Doggie soon! Do yourself a favor and get one! Kari, owner of Pop Doggie, also has a bunch of other pups to purchase. I initially got this one, and sent her a photo of Olive for her to see. She liked Olive's photo so much she made her into art!

I also came into work to find flowers on my desk. They are from a co-worker that I made a save the date for. [For those that read my facebook, yes I caved and did it anyway]

And now for some not so good news. I hyperextended my knee a few weeks ago. Didn't really think much of it and continued my regular workouts. Well, yesterday I tried to run 4 miles and could barely run 2. Not good for someone who's supposed to complete 13 miles in less than a month. Sooooo, I am going to the chiropractor tomorrow and taking some time off from SkyRobics. SO SAD ABOUT THIS, but it's for the best. Once I finish my race I can jump on the trampolines as much as my little knees desire. I want to be healthy for my race and right now that's the most important thing. I will, however, still be doing some cross-training and upper body weights P90X style.

I'm excited for what the future holds!

Recipes: Banana Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Shake

This morning I made a new protein shake derived from a recipe my friend Andy gave me. Geoff and I are always really tired (and lazy) after our workouts and some times we make poor food decisions. From now on, we are going to copy Andy and have a protein shake for dinner after our SkyRobics workouts. You're really not supposed to eat a large meal at the end of the day. Most of your calories should be consumed in the morning/day since you're more active then. Makes sense, right?

Here's my Banana Chocolate Peanut Butter Protein Shake:
1 frozen banana (peel a ripe banana and put it in a container in the freezer over night)
1 cup Silk dark chocolate almond milk (plus more to thin out the shake during blending)
1 tbsp (Wegmans) natural peanut butter
1 scoop (Wegmans) soy protein powder

Calories: 465

It tastes like a milkshake!! A great recovery meal after an intense workout.

Feelin' Fine

A quick little post. Two things, 1. my dog Olive is one smart pup! She just passed her Advanced Obedience class, and 2. I look waaaaay thinner in her graduation photo.

I just wanted to show the comparison of these two photos. The first one was taken December 16, 2011 and the second was yesterday, April 26, 2012. Looking at these photos made me feel very good today. My face has really thinned out and I have a more defined chin. Also, it's hard to tell, but my arms and legs have thinned out a lot, too!

Seeing is how my last post wasn't so chipper, I thought this was needed.
